Tulum was inhabited as early as 564 AD, and is one of the only walled cities built by the Mayans. It served as a spiritual center, port, and fortress. Located only 10 minutes from the condo. We recommend going either early in the morning or at sunset. Take your swimsuit if you want to splash in the waves below these iconic cliff-top ruins. Playa Ruinas is perhaps the most photographed beach in the world, and for good reason.
Tulum has some of the best beaches in the world, stretching for miles, known for their super fine white sand and warm waters. Relax under a palapa with a local cocktail, and watch the waves lap the shore.
In northern Tulum, enjoy the more casual public beaches such as Playa Paraíso. Head to the southern side for chic beach clubs with fabulous restaurants and upscale boutiques. For secluded beaches, explore the Sian Ka'an Biosphere.
Sea turtle nesting season in Tulum takes place between May and October. Come watch the baby turtles make their way to the sea, or hire a boat from the Tulum ruins beach in order to swim with them. You can also snorkel with the turtles year round in nearby Akumal Bay. And if you do head to Akumal, also enjoy a snorkel in Yal-Ku Lagoon, followed by a meal at La Buena Vida restaurant where you can drink a cocktail in the top of a palm tree.
Chichen Itzá is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Temple of Kukulkán was designed so that every year on the equinoxes the sun forms the shadow of a serpent on the pyramid. It is well worth the two hour drive from Tulum.
Only 45 minutes from Tulum are the equally fabulous, yet less traveled, Cobá ruins. Rent a bike at the Cobá ruins entrance to pedal through the jungle paths lined by pyramids and ancient structures. Take a refreshing dip in a cenote (natural swimming hole) or two on your drive back to Tulum. Highly recommended!
The Yucatan Peninsula is home to more than 6,000 cenotes. These are natural sinkholes caused by erosion of the limestone by the extensive underground river system. Nothing feels quite so refreshing as a dip in a cool cenote on a hot day. Some of our favorites close to Tulum are Gran Cenote, Casa Tortuga, and Jardín del Edén. You can also venture inland 2 hours toward Valladolid to the quintessential Ik Kil cenote, pictured above.
The Riviera Maya is home to some of the most spectacular scuba diving in the world. Explore the many exotic cenotes, or dive the second biggest reef in the world. It is definitely worth the effort to go to Cozumel for a day of reef diving, or check out this link for the best cenote dives.

Stroll the streets of the Tulum pueblo and shop for local artisan treasures. The town comes alive at night, after the heat of the day, with taco stands and live music. The streets are lined with popular and reasonably priced bars and restaurants.
Tulum is a foodie's paradise! You can find anything from authentic (and cheap) street tacos in the pueblo, to fine dining under the stars with your feet in the sand on the beach. The food is simply out of this world. Check out the Restaurants tab in the navigation bar above for more information.
Hop on a beach cruiser bike and meander down Tulum's bohemian beach road. Spend the day, making stops along the way to shop at the chic boutiques and visit the gorgeous beach clubs. Relax at any of the amazing open air restaurants, with a margarita in hand, and watch the people go by.
The Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, spanning over 2 million acres, features an astounding number of ecosystems: wetlands, tropical forests, coastline, mangroves, and coral reefs. It is rich with animal life, including jaguar, tapir, manatee, crocodiles, sea turtles, howler monkeys, dolphins, and many species of birds. We recommend a tranquil float through the winding canals, and a wildlife boat tour. Go to Muyil, about a half hour south of Tulum , to start the tour. Sian Ka'an is a true jewel!

The great-grandson of legendary art collector Peggy Guggenheim created a one-of-a-kind art gallery in Tulum (in Azulik resort). The wave-like cement walls and undulating vine floors provide a unique backdrop for modern artwork. The architecture is truly visionary and unique.
